| Porn Movie Director: Patrick Collins |
a.k.a. Roscoe Bowltree
Patrick Collins is one of the most outspoken hardcore directors around, a man who's very proud of what he does and how he does it. The filmmaker behind such long-running series as 'Sodomania' and 'Bottom Dweller,' Collins is also one of the few porno gurus who uses his own name. He fell into hardcore directing by accident and certainly never expected to be where he is today. He's happy with how things have turned out, though, and seems to be one of the most self-satisfied porners around. Patrick's trek through the world of hardcore began when he met his first wife, the woman known to porn audiences as Tianna. They got to know one another in Palm Springs during 1988 and quickly tied the knot. The sexually liberated couple decided to get into porn in early 1989, she as a performer and he as an investor and occasional performer. The couple rarely worked together on camera, though. Collins stepped in as one of the primary backers of John Stagliano's Evil Angel video team in '89 and soon found himself virtually running the business end of things. Stagliano was too busy shooting gonzo videos and partying, so Collins got a crash course in hardcore industry survival. As Evil Angel racked up the sales and critical acclaim, Collins decided to try his luck behind the cameras. He had already worked on the sets of Stagliano and Bruce Seven and wanted to set himself apart from his filmmaking mentors. So Collins jetted off to Budapest, Hungary in 1991 to shoot his debut video, "Buttwoman Does Budapest." Patrick became one of the first directors to fully exploit the possibilities behind the former Iron Curtain and soon became synonymous with down and dirty European spectacles. He took his on-the-spot gonzo approach from Stagliano, but outfitted it with his own particularly raunchy point of view. Collins revels in depicting stunningly nasty anal sex, and upon his return from Europe he set out to begin the series that would become his masterwork. 'Sodomania' was the name of the line, and each episode found Collins stringing together some of the most deliriously debauched vignettes yet seen on video. Collins brought a European 'do-everything' sensibility to Porn Valley, and the audience responded by making it an instant smash. It was one of the stand-out series of the 90s and provided the decade's starlets with the opportunity to see how nasty and sex-crazed they could get. Collins directed every one of the series' 34 episodes and seemed to delight in topping his own twisted visions every time out. The mid-90s were a time of turmoil for Collins as two of his most important relationships fell apart. His marriage to Tianna broke up over her desire to move away from the fast lane and start a family. The fact that Collins had impregnated lover Nikole Lace didn't help matters and soon Tianna was gone and Lace was installed as the new Mrs. Collins. Patrick also split with Evil Angel and Stagliano at around this time, taking some of the company's key personnel and forming his own company, Elegant Angel. As you might expect, money and its fair distribution was at the heart of this dispute. Elegant Angel quickly established itself as one of the top production companies in the business, with standout series like 'Cumback Pussy' and 'The Voyeur' leading the way. Collins continued directing his own Euro-style features like 'Erika Bella, Euroslut' while still occasionally popping up in performance roles under his on-screen name of Roscoe Bowltree. In 1998, Collins was again involved in an acrimonious break-up, this time with much of his talent at Elegant Angel. Directors Rob Black, Van Damage and Tom Byron left his stable, along with starlet Tiffany Mynx and a handful of office staff -- again over money concerns but this time with Collins the one being accused of being a rip-off artist. While the mutineers left to form Extreme Associates, Collins was left to once again rebuild his empire. Which he has done, despite the sniping and anger from some quarters. He continues to make videos his way and promises not to change a thing as we enter a new decade. A true iconoclast, Patrick Collins has put on video some of the most memorably nasty moments of the 1990s and will probably keep shooting stellar sexvids until he can no longer hold the camera.
