Beginning Bluegrass Banjo Used DVD
Beginning Bluegrass Banjo Description: "Now learning to play the banjo is easier than ever with Greg Cahill teaching you everything you need to know starting from the very beginning. Includes: introducing the 5 string banjo to the complete beginner, identification of all the parts, how to tune, basic chord formations, how to read banjo tablature, wearing your picks, 5 roll patterns, and he teaches you to play 4 tunes in complete detail. Tunes taught: Cripple Creek, She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain, Oh Susannah, and Cumberland Gap (2 variations, regular and up-the-neck). Greg Cahill has Grammy nominations for several LPs and has recorded and performed with Jethro Burns, Byron Berline, and countless other major radio and TV commercials and recordings of various countries, folk artists. If you've seen a TV commercial featuring John Lithgow (from the TV series 'Third Rock from the Sun'), with a banjo, that's not really John Lithgow playing at all, its Greg! Greg has been featured on the cover of 'Banjo Newsletter' and appears periodically as a guest columnist. He teaches at The Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago and conduct workshops at music festivals and venues world wide. He has toured with his band 'Special Consensus' all over the U.S., Canada, South America, and Europe. Greg is on the Board of Directors of the International Bluegrass Music Association and is chairman of the IMBA 'Bluegrass in the Schools' committee."Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine (Review): November 2000 Issue It's pretty rare to find a single video (or videos like these) that can actually take a neophyte banjo player from the most fundamental introduction all the way through up the neck solo variations, melodic technique, and single-string picking. But Greg Cahill manages somehow to do just than on this excellent pair of instructional DVDs. Greg explains the basic principles of bluegrass banjo playing concisely, slowly and clearly enough that anyone will be able to follow along with ease. Cahill begins by explaining the fundamentals of the 3-finger roll and basic left-hand chords, hammer-ons, and pull-offs, then proceeds to teach a number of popular banjo tunes, playing each tune up to speed, explain the licks involved, then playing the whole thing again slowly. The split-screen presentation allows the student to watch both right and left hands at once and a tablature booklet is included with each DVD. The first DVD focuses on banjo anatomy, tuning and basic rolling patterns, while the 2nd addresses use of the capo, chord positions, and melodic and single-string styles. Both DVDs will make an excellent intro to the instrument for anyone interested in starting on his own."
